The Northside Grizzlies will put their perfect conference record to the test this Friday night when they host the undefeated North Little Rock Charging Wildcats in a 7-A Central showdown.

After starting 2-0 in conference play, the Grizzlies edged by the Little Rock Catholic Rockets, 26-19 in a homecoming battle, moving to 3-0 in the conference.

“I think our guys underestimated them, but I do believe that we are in the best football conference in the state top to bottom,” Head coach Mike Falleur said.

The very next week, the Grizzlies headed to Conway to face the Wampus Cats. Despite many controversial calls not going their way, the Grizzlies were able to handle the adversity, and make a goal line stand in the closing seconds to escape Conway with a 28-21 win.

“They handled it [adversity] great, better than I did,” Falleur said.

Despite defeating the Wampus Cats, quarterback Max Frazier went down with an ankle injury.

“About Max, I don’t know. These types of injuries are different for players. I do know Max will do everything possible to get back as quick as he can,” Falleur said.

With Frazier likely out this week, it will force Tre Norwood (DB/QB) to play full time at quarterback against North Little Rock, with the winner likely to be the conference champion. Because of this, the Grizzly defense will be forced to step up big against the hot Wildcat offense.

“We will try and help Tre by resting him as much as we can,” Falleur said.

If the Grizzlies are able to come out on top, they will be in first place in the 7-A Central with just two games remaining, at Cabot; 6-1 (3-1), and at home against Southside; 2-5  (1-4).

The COMPLETE standings are listed below. Please note that the top six teams at the end of the season qualify for the State playoffs.

1. Ft. Smith Northside 4-0

2. North Little Rock 4-0

3. Bryant 3-1

4. Cabot 3-1

5. Conway 1-3

6. Ft. Smith Southside 1-3

7. Little Rock Catholic 0-4

8. Little Rock Central 0-4
